Wudu Faraiz: The 4 Essential Steps You Must Not Miss
What Is Wudu?
Wudu is a form of purification required before performing Salah (prayer). It cleans specific parts of the body and prepares a Muslim to stand before Allah.
Allah says in the Qur’an: “O you who believe! When you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to the ankles.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:6)
Faraiz (Obligatory Acts) of Wudu
For Wudu to be valid, these 4 actions are compulsory. Missing even one will make the Wudu invalid.
- 1. Washing the Face
The entire face must be washed — from forehead to chin and ear to ear. - 2. Washing the Arms
Both arms must be washed up to and including the elbows. - 3. Wiping the Head (Masah)
At least a part of the head must be wiped with wet hands. - 4. Washing the Feet
Both feet must be washed up to the ankles, including between the toes.
Why Are These Important?
These acts are directly mentioned in the Qur’an, which makes them compulsory. Without completing them properly, Wudu is not accepted.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Not washing between fingers or toes
- Missing parts of the face
- Not covering elbows or ankles properly
- Doing masah incorrectly or skipping it
Difference Between Fard and Sunnah in Wudu
The faraiz are the minimum requirements for validity. Sunnah actions (like washing hands first, rinsing mouth, etc.) make the Wudu more complete and rewarding.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What happens if I miss one fard?
Your Wudu will not be valid, and you must repeat it.
2. Is rinsing the mouth and nose fard?
According to many scholars, they are Sunnah in Wudu (but fard in Ghusl).
3. How much of the head should be wiped?
At least a small portion is required, but wiping the whole head is Sunnah.
4. Can I do Wudu quickly?
Yes, as long as all four faraiz are completed properly.
Final Reminder
Wudu is not just washing — it is preparation to meet Allah in prayer. Doing it correctly ensures your Salah is valid and accepted.
